Community Involvement/Service
At Bellez Design Studios, associates are encouraged to be involved in and provide service to the community. Lisa believes that to give yourself, whether from your heart, your time or through a financial commitment is invaluable in helping people to stay balanced, grounded and in touch with reality. It is important not to allow superficiality to be the lens through which we see the world, which can be a challenge to professionals in the beauty industry as much as anyone else. Bellez operates under the philosophy that to complete the full circle of success, we must each find ways to help others within our community.
Some of the services that Bellez Design Studios has sponsored within the greater Kansas City community have been:
- Lee National Denim Day (2010)
In October of this year they joined together to support Lee's National Denim Day, a fundraiser for women's cancer support organizations. Some of the proceeds were given to Gilda's Club Kansas City.
- Lenexa Fourth of July Parade (2010)
Bellez Design studios entered a float in the Lenexa July 4th parade in 2010 that reflected their sense of fun and civic pride. They won 2nd place in the float contest.
- Downey Side Adoption Agency (2007)
Many of the Bellez associates have either been personally affected by adoption or have friends or family who have. On their first year anniversary they sponsored a fund raising event for Downey Side Adoption Agency, a non profit agency that places foster children into a permanent family setting, and helps facilitate inter-state adoptions. They involved local businesses and restaurants and raised over $5,000.00 in three hours.
- Susan G. Komen Three-day Walk for the Cure - Kansas City (2006)
Several associates and friends joined Lisa Heidenburg in walking 60-miles over three days, and raised over $55,000 for breast cancer research. They trained and walked 60 miles exactly one month before the opening of Bellez.
- Make a Wish Foundation
Bellez associates have supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation through time served on the local Make a Wish Foundation Board. Make a Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
- Locks of Love (On-going)
The Locks of Love program helps children with cancer receive a wig that can help them feel more comfortable during their battle with cancer. The client who donates their hair gets a chance to help a child in need and receive a great new hairstyle.
- All Bellez stylist associates also offer new short styles to any client diagnosed with cancer prior to their treatment to help prepare them for their loss of hair and give them hope for when it will return. Our massage therapist associate has donated massages to many of the fundraising efforts we participate in.
- Seasonal Sponsored Families
During the holiday season Bellez partners with local agencies to sponsor children or families in need.
- Bellez Design Studios Annual Food Drive (Annual)
As a salon community, they sponsor an annual food drive for local food pantries. This year they are adding a twist to the drive, a nice prize will be awarded to the associates that gather the highest amount of pounds in food products.
- 87th Street Merchants Association
Bellez joined with local businesses that operate in our surrounding area, and with future entrepreneurs to form the 87th Street Merchants. This group of businesses leads by example. The participating businesses support each other, and help each other create a stronger client/customer base. Small businesses are the backbone of our national and our local economies. When businesses thrive, communities thrive.
- Member of Lenexa Chamber of Commerce since 2006
